The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 10 persons over alleged involvement in kidnapping incidents across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital. He said the suspects were apprehended on Monday during a coordinated operation targeting criminal hideouts.
According to the police, the arrests followed a joint intelligence-driven operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Section and operatives of the Police Mobile Force. The team was deployed to strategic locations along Ondo Road based on credible information about the activities of a suspected kidnapping syndicate.
Items recovered during the operation include an operational motorcycle and ransom money. The police noted that part of the cash recovered consisted of burnt currency notes, which are being documented as exhibits as investigations continue.
Jimoh said the suspects have made confessional statements detailing the roles they allegedly played within the syndicate. He added that further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of their operations and to track down other accomplices who may still be at large.
