The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has arrested a 26-year-old man suspected to be behind the production and distribution of adulterated engine oil across the country.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos.

According to him, the investigation began after a petition was submitted to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, accusing some individuals of illegally adulterating engine oil products.

Afolayan said the petition was immediately forwarded to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit for discreet investigation.

He explained that detectives later arrested the suspect, who reportedly confessed to organising the production and importation of fake engine oil from China and distributing it across several states in Nigeria.

He added that intelligence-led raids carried out by operatives led to the recovery of 280 gallons of adulterated engine oil from different locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos and Ogun states.
