The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended four additional suspects in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals, whose bodies were found in a river in Anambra West Local Government Area in November 2025.

The new arrests, made on February 13, 2026, followed confessions from two previously detained suspects, which led security operatives to a shrine in Nando, Anambra East LGA. A fierce gun duel ensued during the operation, with one suspect sustaining a bullet injury and being treated in hospital.
According to Tochukwu Ikenga, Spokesman for the Anambra Police Command, the arrested men include the alleged Chief Priest of the shrine, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, aka “Ugoebenajah” (27), alongside Nwabunne Bright (27), Chinecherem Chiama (21), and Michael Ekwunife (38). Police recovered two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted ammunition, and criminal charms at the scene.

“The Command operatives acted swiftly based on information from the earlier suspects, confronting about 30 armed men at the shrine,” Ikenga said. “While the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, escaped with other gang members, efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.”
The suspects are currently under interrogation as police continue investigations to ensure the safety of residents and bring all culprits to justice.
