Police Arrest Four, Recover Suspected Cannabis in Kano Raids

The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered large quantities of substances believed to be cannabis sativa during separate operations across the state.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, who said the operations were carried out as part of sustained intelligence-led patrols in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the statement, operatives attached to the Fagge Police Division, while on surveillance patrol around Triumph Roundabout on Sunday at about 3:00 p.m., intercepted a tricycle conveying two sacks. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 157 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Two suspects, identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both residents of Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In a separate operation conducted on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., the Command’s Rapid Response Team raided identified black spots within the Kano metropolis. The raid resulted in the arrest of Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25.

Items recovered from the suspects included 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally known as “Suck and Die.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and supportive of security efforts.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse in the state, assuring residents of continued efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment.
