The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and crashing his car during a live-stream.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, sparked widespread public outrage online, prompting police intervention. In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said Peller’s actions posed a serious threat to public safety.
According to the police, the influencer was seen driving dangerously while live-streaming, an act that led to a major accident and endangered both his life and that of other road users. The command described the behaviour as extremely reckless and warned that it could have resulted in fatal consequences.
The police further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. Authorities said the outcome of the probe would be made public, after which Peller would be charged in court in line with the law.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to promote or engage in dangerous and unlawful acts.
He stressed that reckless behaviour, especially on public roads, would no longer be tolerated and assured residents that the police would enforce the law without fear or favour.
The incident has reignited conversations about the increasing trend of risky stunts by content creators seeking online attention, with many Nigerians calling for stricter enforcement to discourage similar actions. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to public safety, noting that anyone found endangering lives on Lagos roads will face prosecution, regardless of status or influence.
