Police Arrest Man for Alleged Illegal Possession of Firearm in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly being in possession of an illegal firearm.

The suspect, identified as Kingsley Dele, was arrested by operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad following credible intelligence.

Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms in the state.

She explained that the suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation carried out on February 28, 2026.

According to her, “At about 10:00 a.m., operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Dr Kingsley Dele of Obaretin Community. A discreet but swift operation led to the recovery of one Beretta pistol from the suspect.”

Ikoedem said the arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on the circulation of illegal weapons, which are often linked to violent crimes across communities.

She noted that the operation aligns with the security strategy of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, aimed at tackling crimes associated with illicit firearms.
