The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby girl in a bush in Akwanga Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in Lafia on Thursday. He identified the suspect as a final-year student of the College of Education, Akwanga, adding that she is currently in custody.
“The mother of the baby has been identified and arrested. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution,” Nansel said.

The baby, discovered on Wednesday near the popular A.A. Koto area close to Hope Academy Primary School, was found wrapped in cloth and abandoned in a bush. Residents rescued the infant alive and handed her over to the police.
The incident has sparked outrage in Akwanga and across Nasarawa State, with many condemning the act as inhumane.
