The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered an assortment of weapons during separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Monday in Uyo.
According to the police, the suspects were picked up last Friday around 8 p.m. after operatives acted on credible intelligence. Two of the suspects were first arrested at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village, where they were receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments. The third suspect was later tracked down and apprehended during further investigations.
The suspects have been identified as 40-year-old Akan Udo from Ikot Edem Udo Village; 20-year-old Namso Monday from Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village; and 40-year-old Mbata Udo from Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village.
During a search of their hideout, officers recovered a locally made pistol, a locally made revolver, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two generators, a battle axe, pliers, and other incriminating items.

The police added that the native doctor believed to have been providing cover for the gang fled before officers arrived, and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him.
DSP John noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, had commended the operatives for their swift action and reiterated the Command’s commitment to flushing out criminals from the state. She added that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident over the weekend, the Delta State Police Command arrested a suspected armed robber, Stanley Chibuike, who allegedly hid a pistol inside a loaf of bread. According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was caught during a routine stop-and-search operation at Koka Roundabout in Asaba on November 6, 2025, after officers noticed his suspicious behaviour.
