Police in Katsina successfully thwarted an attack on Sabuwa town, the administrative center of Sabuwa local government area, neutralizing a suspected bandit in the process. ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesperson, disclosed this development to reporters in Katsina on Thursday.

According to Aliyu, the police received information on April 17, 2024, around 5 p.m., about a group of suspected bandits armed with AK-47 rifles approaching Sabuwa town on motorcycles, intending to launch an attack. Upon receiving the alert, the Sabuwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly mobilized a team of operatives, including personnel from Operation Sharan Daji and the Community Watch Corps, to the scene.

A fierce gun battle ensued between the police team and the suspected bandits, leading to the foiling of the planned attack. Unfortunately, a member of the Community Watch Corps sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg and was promptly evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.

During a sweep of the area, the police recovered the body of one suspected bandit who had been neutralized, along with a walkie-talkie and a hand grenade. The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, urged the public to report anyone suspected of having sustained a bullet wound, as some of the bandits managed to escape with injuries.

The commissioner also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities. He reassured the public of the police command's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Katsina State.
