The Kogi Police Command has officially confirmed the armed robbery attacks on two banks in Ayingba, where a police officer was tragically killed. State Police Commissioner Mr. Bethrand Onuoha revealed this in a statement issued in Lokoja by the command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, a day after the incident occurred.

According to reports, the robbers raided First Bank of Nigeria and Access Bank in Ayingba town, Dekina Local Government of the State, around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Despite facing fierce resistance from security operatives, the daring robbers managed to escape with an unspecified sum of money from both banks.

"One Police Constable paid the supreme price during the exchange of fire with the hoodlums before the arrival of the reinforced team to the scenes and the attackers fled," the CP said. Onuoha, who reportedly visited the scenes for an on-the-spot assessment on Friday, vowed that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.

To restore normalcy in the area, Onuoha ordered the deployment of tactical teams, including PMF Personnel, Counter Terrorism, Quick Response, and Intelligence Units, in synergy with other security agencies. He assured Kogi residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the state's safety and security for all. The CP also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, to commence an investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
