The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the assault of a 55-year-old woman, Ndididamaka Agu, who was attacked by a group of men in Emekuku, near Owerri, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the attack was allegedly carried out because Agu cooperated with police officers during an investigation.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, ordered a full probe after a viral video showed the woman being beaten by several men from her community, Umuakaliukwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku.
Following the directive, the command’s X-Squad Unit has begun efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute everyone involved in the assault.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that six men were responsible for the attack,” Okoye said. “The assault was reportedly motivated by her cooperation with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purpurposes .

He added that the police are working to apprehend the suspects and will ensure they face justice in court.
The Commissioner of Police condemned the act, describing it as barbaric, inhumane, and completely unacceptable.
He also warned that the command would not tolerate any form of jungle justice or intimidation against residents who lawfully assist the police in their duties.
Danjuma reaffirmed the commitment of the Imo Police Command to protect law-abiding citizens and ensure that justice is served.
