The police have confirmed injuries following a clash between farmers and cattle herders in Hayin Kogi forest, located in the Birninkudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Monday.

According to the report, at around 5:00 PM, herders from the Waza Fulani settlements attacked farmers who were clearing bushes in preparation for the wet season farming. The sudden attack caused many farmers to flee, leaving behind their tricycles, phones, and farming tools.

"Upon receiving the report, police from a neighboring division were promptly mobilized to the scene," said Shiisu. He further mentioned that a 42-year-old man and four others who sustained injuries were taken to the Dutse General Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

"The belongings of the farmers were recovered and returned to them," he added.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and an investigation into the incident is underway. "Normalcy has since been restored in the area," Shiisu assured.

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, has organized a stakeholders' meeting and ordered the arrest of the culprits. He has also directed the Area Commander in charge of Birninkudu and the Divisional Police Officers in charge of Birninkudu and Kiyawa to hold a stakeholders' meeting to ease tensions and prevent further breaches of peace in the area.
