The Presidency has clarified that several funds released within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the tenure of former governor Godwin Emefiele, which have impacted the nation's current state, were authorized without the knowledge or signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser on media and publicity to President Bola Tinubu, acknowledged during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo on Channels Television that the previous administration shared responsibility for certain events at the Apex Bank under Emefiele's leadership.
Ngelale highlighted President Tinubu's acknowledgment of actions taken under the previous administration, emphasizing that many approvals within the CBN were made without Buhari's signature or knowledge. Despite this, Buhari's administration made advancements in areas such as infrastructure and business accessibility, although his disregard for the CBN's mismanagement contributed to the current state of the economy.
The presidential aide further noted that Tinubu has been transparent about events that occurred under Buhari's predecessor that were detrimental to the economy, despite supporting Buhari's administration. He emphasized that while there is responsibility to be taken for decisions made, it doesn't diminish the administration's achievements in areas like infrastructure development and business facilitation.
