In a broadcast commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that more than 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders have been neutralized by Nigeria’s security forces. This success has contributed to the restoration of peace in hundreds of northern communities, allowing thousands of displaced individuals to return to their homes.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to completely eradicating threats from Boko Haram, banditry, and other forms of violent extremism. He also highlighted the positive economic impact expected from restored security, including an increase in food production as farmers return to their lands, which could lower food prices.
Additionally, Tinubu addressed the government's response to recent natural disasters like flooding, emphasizing the establishment of a Disaster Relief Fund and integrity tests on national dams to prevent future calamities.
“Our government has made significant strides in restoring peace, and we will not relent in our mission to eliminate all forms of violent extremism,” the President stated.
