President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The appointments were announced following the resignation of the previous chiefs of these key intelligence agencies.
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, a seasoned Foreign Service officer with a distinguished career since 1995, has been named the new Director-General of the NIA. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed has previously served in various capacities, including as head of Nigerian missions in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and Libya.
For the DSS, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, a veteran intelligence operative and former Assistant Director-General, has been appointed as the new Director-General. Mr. Ajayi has a rich history of service, having served as State Director in several states, including Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu tasked the newly appointed security chiefs with the responsibility of repositioning their respective agencies to better address Nigeria's security challenges. The President emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their dedicated service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavors.
