President Tinubu Champions Science and Development, Launches National Research Fund

President Bola Tinubu has affirmed his administration's dedication to advancing science and development in Nigeria. He has directed the establishment of the National Research Fund, which will be pivotal for the country's progress. President Tinubu made these statements on Thursday, March 7, during his appointment as the Grand Patron of the Nigerian Academy of Science in Abuja.

Acknowledging the importance of science in shaping the nation's future, President Tinubu emphasized that transformative research is indispensable for development. He stressed, "I believe without great research and development no nation can develop to achieve a desire." His administration pledges direct support to research and development in Nigeria through various governmental policies, programs, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude for being recognized as the Grand Patron of Science by the Academy. He assured continued support for research, science, and development, stating, "Paying attention to research, science, and development is a commitment that I will continue to support directly and through various government policies and programs, through our ministries of science and technology, health, education, and related ministries will be mobilized."

The President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof. Ekanem Braide, emphasized the need for collaboration between government, industries, and the community to address national challenges. She applauded President Tinubu's administration for prioritizing a knowledge-based economy and disclosed ongoing collaborations with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for national development interventions. Prof. Braide called for deploying science, technology, and innovation to tackle socio-economic problems, aiming for sustainable economic development in Nigeria.
