President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the long-awaited Wuse-Wuye Link Bridge in Abuja on Thursday, marking the completion of a project that began 15 years ago. The project, originally awarded in 2009 for N34 billion, was completed at a cost of N74 billion by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministry.
During the inauguration, President Tinubu expressed his excitement and highlighted the anticipated benefits of the new infrastructure. He emphasized the improved traffic flow within the Wuse and Wuye communities and adjoining districts that the bridge would bring.
"We celebrate not just the infrastructure, but also the empowerment of the Wuse and Wuye communities and the fulfillment of promises made several years back," President Tinubu stated. He reiterated his administration’s dedication to Nigeria's progress through significant investments in essential services such as water supply, electricity, and road networks.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of hard work and collective effort in achieving national progress and creating an inclusive society. "Whatever anybody might say, it should be that Nigeria will definitely make progress, and the prosperity, the hope and the achievement is in our hands. We will build a nation where no one is excluded," he said.
The President commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his leadership and dedication to the project. Tinubu acknowledged the minister and his team for their efforts in translating true democracy into making people the center of governance.
Minister Wike praised President Tinubu for his support, which he said made the completion of the bridge possible. He highlighted the impact of the project on the local communities and the economic activities in the area. "Residents of this district had lost hope. Anybody who is familiar with this terrain will definitely appreciate what you have done. This job was awarded in 2009, about 15 years ago, at the cost of N34 billion. But before you came in, on May 29, it was revised to N74 billion," Wike explained.
Wike also acknowledged the President's decision to remove the FCT Ministry from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which he said facilitated the execution of various projects. "Removing us from the TSA has made it very possible for all these achievements. All these projects wouldn’t have been possible if you hadn’t pulled us out of the TSA," Wike added.
