“On the occasion of Father’s Day, President Bola Tinubu congratulates fathers, including all paternal figures, who have in no small measure contributed to shaping the destiny of the nation by their sacrifice, forbearance, provision, protection, presence, and guidance of the young ones to the noble and true path," the statement reads.
The President also reflected on the historical origins of Father’s Day, noting its roots in a 1908 event in West Virginia, United States, which honored 362 men who died in a coal mining explosion. He affirmed that society benefits greatly from fathers who rise to the demands of responsibility, teaching children values like discipline, integrity, and service through personal example.
President Tinubu urged fathers to continue their vital role in positively shaping the destinies of their children and wished all Nigerians a happy Father’s Day. He concluded by celebrating all fathers who endure daily challenges to provide for their families, calling them "true heroes."
