One of the 2023 presidential aspirants of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe, has resigned his membership of the PDP, citing "personal reasons, current commitments, and aspirations." Ndukwe, a former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, made this known in a letter to the Chairman of his ward in Bende Local Government Area, also copied to the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Asiforo Okere, and the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
In the letter posted on his Facebook page on Monday morning, Ndukwe expressed gratitude to the PDP for giving him the platform to come to political limelight and wished the party success in the state. He mentioned his tenure as a Councillor, Deputy Chairman of the Local Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Abia State, Deputy Speaker of the Abia 6th House of Assembly, and Presidential Aspirant PDP 2023 as part of his journey within the party.
While stepping away from his formal role in the PDP, Ndukwe reiterated his commitment to the principles of democracy and the progress of Abia State. He formally resigned from all duties and responsibilities associated with his position as a member and stakeholder in the PDP Abia State.
In an introductory post to the letter, Ndukwe hinted at a new destination to be announced soon, indicating a possible move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to assist his kinsman, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.
Ndukwe's resignation adds to a series of exits from the PDP, including that of former Governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, and over 20 key members of the party in Imo State, amidst a supremacy tussle between former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, believed to be at the center of the crisis rocking the party.
