The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, are set to arrive in Nigeria today for a three-day private visit. Their visit comes at the invitation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, and is focused on the Invictus Games initiative.
Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), announced that the royal couple will interact with wounded soldiers and their families during their stay. The visit, from today until May 13, is intended to boost the morale of wounded soldiers in their recovery efforts.
Marquis highlighted the positive impact of the recovery program on soldiers, noting that it has improved their self-esteem, mental health, and emotional intelligence. He emphasized the importance of family support in the recovery process, particularly for soldiers who have experienced permanent disabilities.
The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, is an international adaptive multi-sport event for wounded, injured, or sick armed services personnel and veterans. The visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is expected to raise awareness and support for this initiative in Nigeria.
