Several protesters who participated in the August 1-10 #EndBadGovernance protest have been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre after being charged with treason. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, ordered their remand pending the hearing and ruling on their bail application, which is scheduled for September 11, 2024.

The protesters, who were arraigned on Monday, pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge brought against them by the Federal Government, which includes allegations of terrorism. The charges stem from their involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest, which called for significant political and social reforms in Nigeria.

The remand and the upcoming bail hearing have sparked concerns among civil rights groups and activists, who argue that the charges are an attempt to suppress dissent and discourage legitimate protest. The case continues to draw attention as it raises critical questions about the balance between national security and the right to peaceful assembly and protest.
