The Police Service Commission (PSC) appointed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar as the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) on Friday. Abubakar, previously overseeing Zone 14 Katsina, will now represent the North East in the Police Management Team, succeeding DIG Habu Sani.
Alongside Abubakar's promotion, the PSC approved the elevation of 122 senior officers, including the promotion of 10 Commissioners to AIGs, 15 Deputy Commissioners to substantive Commissioners, and 36 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners. Sixty-one Chief Superintendents were also promoted to Assistant Commissioners.
These decisions were made during an extraordinary Management Meeting on June 6, chaired by PSC Chairman Solomon Arase. The promoted officers underwent a mandatory interactive session as part of their promotion process.
Chairman Arase emphasized the need for a knowledge-driven police force adept at using advanced strategies and technology to combat crime. He urged the newly promoted officers to be dedicated to their roles in ensuring national security.
