Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo, has been granted bail after spending close to a month in police custody.
The update was shared by his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, who announced on Instagram, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” without disclosing further details.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, following allegations of abuse directed at Afrofusion star Burna Boy.
Despite the legal challenges, his legal team, led by lawyer Deji Adeyanju, had earlier taken steps to ensure his release. Adeyanju disclosed that a Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure (FREP) application was filed and granted by the court, which mandated his arraignment within 48 hours or his release on bail.
“Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju stated.
The rapper’s arrest and subsequent legal proceedings have drawn attention, sparking debates about freedom of expression and the role of law enforcement in entertainment disputes.
