The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education Examination Bodies has pledged full legislative support to indigenous examination bodies including NECO, WAEC, JAMB, and NABTEB, as part of a broader push to raise education standards in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oboku Oforji (PDP, Bayelsa), made this known during an oversight visit to monitor the ongoing NECO examinations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Oforji commended the performance of Professor Ibrahim Wushishi-led NECO, citing the council’s improved exam procedures, tight verification processes, and growing credibility.

“NECO is our own, and we are proud of its progress. We saw strict validation processes—passport-tagged master sheets and real-time supervision. This gives us confidence in the system,” Oforji said.

He warned against the rising trend of examination malpractice, urging NECO and other bodies to stay resilient and committed to integrity, noting that a robust education system was key to national development.

“We’re optimistic. Today may be tough, but tomorrow will be better. We in the National Assembly are poised to strengthen all our exam bodies through meaningful reform,” he added.

The committee also reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with all national exam bodies, assuring Nigerians of a renewed focus on transparency, modernization, and student success in the education sector.
