Residents Fear for Missing Elderly Persons After Terror Attack on Borno Community

Residents of Ngoshe community in Borno State have raised serious concerns about the safety of elderly residents and the condition of several bodies allegedly left behind after an attack by suspected members of Boko Haram.

Witnesses said many survivors fled the community in panic without carrying personal belongings as they escaped the violence.

The attack reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday when the armed group invaded Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area. The attackers first targeted a military position in the area before moving into civilian settlements, where they carried out further assaults.

Residents said the attack lasted several hours before air forces reportedly intervened and forced the attackers to retreat into nearby forests.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed that several residents were still missing but said the exact number of casualties was yet to be determined.

A community official, Shuaibu Dabawa, claimed that more than 300 residents were abducted during the attack. He explained that residents fled into nearby bush paths to escape gunfire and spent the night there for safety.

Dabawa expressed concern that some elderly residents may have been left behind in the community alongside several bodies of victims. He also said many residents escaped with only the clothes they were wearing, leaving homes and property abandoned.
