Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara Nominates Caretaker Chairmen Amid Political Turmoil

Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has nominated caretaker chairmen for all 23 local government areas amidst a heightened political crisis. The nominations, sent to the state House of Assembly led by factional Speaker Victor Jumbo, aim to fill the vacuum left by former chairmen who refused to vacate their offices after their tenure expired.

In a statement issued by the Clerk of the House, G.M. Gillis-West, Fubara's communication detailed the urgency of the situation, prompting the assembly to invite the nominees for screening the following day at 8 am. The political unrest escalated when youths loyal to Fubara clashed with former chairmen supporters, resulting in fatal violence at the Eberi-Omuma secretariat.
