Popular Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has stirred reactions online after openly admitting that he engages in traditional spiritual practices, commonly referred to as juju, to support his success.
The singer made the statement during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of veteran actor Fatai Odua on March 30, 2026.
In a video that has since gone viral, Osupa was seen joking with his backup singers, advising them to consider using spiritual means to improve their memory as they struggled to keep up with his performance. He went on to state that such practices do not make one evil but can be used for personal progress.
He also revealed that he had once been advised to publicly deny involvement in such practices but refused.
According to him, he sees nothing wrong in using spiritual means as long as it is not harmful to others. He added that he regularly pays homage to Ifa, which he believes plays a role in his journey.
Osupa further claimed that many people engage in similar practices but choose to keep it private, while he prefers to be open about his beliefs.
His comments have since triggered mixed reactions, especially from religious groups. Some Islamic clerics criticised his remarks, urging him to rely on faith in God rather than spiritual practices.

One cleric advised him to reconsider his stance, noting that many of his fans look up to him and may be influenced by his words. Others questioned his religious alignment, pointing to his career in music and public statements.
In response to the backlash, Osupa maintained that he respects both Christianity and Islam, stating that he acknowledges Jesus and Prophet Muhammad. However, he criticised what he described as hypocrisy among people who publicly deny practices they secretly engage in.
The controversy has since sparked wider conversations about religion, culture, and the role of traditional beliefs in modern society.
