Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on teachers to ensure improved performance from their pupils as he inaugurated newly reconstructed schools, including Ajegunle High School and Keme Balogun Junior and Senior Colleges in Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

In his remarks during the commissioning ceremony, the governor stated, “This school reconstruction sends a powerful message to the community: education matters, our children matter, and their future is worth every investment we make.”

He emphasized the long-term benefits of quality education, adding, “Educated individuals make informed decisions, contribute civically, and can lift their families out of poverty. They are tomorrow’s doctors, engineers, teachers, and leaders who will drive this community’s and our state’s socio-economic development.”

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, traditional rulers, and various party stakeholders. Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the community to take ownership of the schools and help maintain their status as centres of excellence.

“As we commission these schools, we open doors to opportunity, progress, and a brighter future. I charge the community to see these schools as their own and support them as centres of excellence, transforming lives for future generations,” he stated.

The governor also announced that several other schools across Lagos would be commissioned soon, continuing the government’s commitment to education under the THEMES Plus agenda. Upcoming handovers include Awori Junior College in Ojo, Euba Junior High School in Mushin, and Mainland Junior Secondary School in Fadeyi, among others.

During an inspection at Ajegunle Junior High School in Kosofe Local Government Area (LGA), the governor reaffirmed the government’s focus on educational excellence. “These projects confirm our commitment to educational excellence and socio-economic development in Lagos. Education, a cornerstone of THEMES+, drives growth, reduces inequality, and empowers people to escape poverty. By investing in schools, we strengthen the socio-economic fabric of this community and Lagos State,” he said.

Miss Chioma Nwokpo, a pupil and sanitation prefect at Keme Balogun Junior School, expressed her appreciation for the initiative: “I want to thank our governor for making our school beautiful. God bless you, sir. Amen.”

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Ali-Balogun, commended the governor’s dedication to education, while Mr. Hakeem Smith, Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools, reflected on the challenges of the project. “At first, this Ajegunle project seemed impossible due to the swampy land, but we took extra measures to ensure a solid foundation. I applaud our relentless governor for his unwavering support throughout this project. Well done, sir,” he said.
