Sanwo-Olu Vows to Complete Long-Abandoned Adiyan Water Project

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to completing the long-abandoned 70 million-gallon-per-day Adiyan Water Project within the next year. Speaking at the fifth Lagos International Water Conference, he emphasized the urgency of finishing the project to improve water security in Lagos.

The conference, themed ‘Financing Water and Sanitation for a Greater Lagos,’ highlighted the crucial role of financial resources in achieving water accessibility and sustainability. Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the need for action over rhetoric, calling for genuine partnerships to advance the state’s water infrastructure goals.

“We need to move beyond lip service and rhetoric,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Our aim is to build partnerships and identify actionable solutions. We are committed to completing the Adiyan water treatment plant and are seeking dedicated partners to achieve this goal.”

Sanwo-Olu criticized the continuous cycle of proposals without concrete results and urged for a collaborative approach to solve the water issues. He expressed hope that the discussions at the conference would lead to effective solutions, aiming to change the water narrative in Lagos within the next 12 to 18 months.
