Scandal Deepens in Equatorial Guinea as Cristel Nchama Files Complaint Against Former ANIF Chief Over Viral Videos

Cristel Nchama

Cristel Nchama, one of the women featured in the explicit videos at the center of a national scandal involving former ANIF chief Baltasar Engonga, has officially filed a complaint with the National Gendarmerie in Malabo. Engonga, recently dismissed from his role as the Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), faces ongoing scrutiny after investigators reportedly uncovered around 400 explicit videos in his possession. These tapes allegedly involve numerous prominent women, including the spouses of senior officials and the president’s sister.

Nchama’s complaint details her four-year relationship with Engonga, accusing him of misleading her into participating in the recordings under assurances that the videos would remain private. She expressed her distress, revealing that the videos' leak has severely impacted her reputation. Additionally, she demanded reparations from Engonga, citing emotional harm and reputational damage.

The recordings, reportedly filmed in offices, hotels, and bathrooms, have sparked public outrage, particularly due to the involvement of high-ranking officials and their spouses. Nchama claims she was “betrayed” by the circulation of the footage and is demanding answers on how the videos became public.

Following the scandal, the government announced not only Engonga’s dismissal but also the suspension of multiple officials allegedly involved in misconduct within government facilities.
