Scores Killed, Many Abducted as Gunmen Strike Across Northern States

Gunmen have unleashed fresh violence across several northern states within the past 72 hours, leaving scores dead and many others abducted in a wave of coordinated attacks.

In Adamawa State, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Madagali Local Government Area, came under attack again on Tuesday night. Local sources said suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded Kirchinga village around midnight, killing several residents.

Community members put the death toll at no fewer than 24, though the Adamawa State Police Command said it was still compiling official casualty figures. The latest assault marks the fourth attack on Madagali in five months, following previous incidents in October, November and December 2025.

In Kebbi State, gunmen stormed a mosque in Dadinkowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area, on Wednesday night during a Qur’anic Tafsir session coinciding with Taraweeh prayers. Five worshippers were killed and three others injured when the attackers opened fire on the congregation.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, describing it as a reprisal attack by suspected terrorists. Security operatives have since been deployed to the area, and investigations are ongoing.

Fresh abductions were also reported in Sokoto and Kwara states.

In Sokoto, suspected bandits attacked Rabah Local Government Area on Tuesday night, firing sporadically before moving from house to house and abducting an unspecified number of residents. The attack came barely a week after 16 people were kidnapped in the same area, with the gunmen reportedly demanding N20 million and three motorcycles as ransom.

In Kwara State, four members of the same family were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday on their farmland in Babanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly rounded up five family members but later released an elderly man, taking the remaining four to an unknown destination.

The Chairman of Ifelodun LGA, Femi Yusuf, confirmed the abduction, while residents described the atmosphere as tense and fearful.

Amid the rising insecurity, youths from Kwara North staged a protest at the Government House in Ilorin, demanding urgent action to end repeated killings and bandit attacks in Edu, Patigi and Kaiama local government areas. The Coalition of Kwara North Youths alleged that recent attacks in Woro and Nuku communities claimed between 162 and 200 lives within two days.
