Senate President Applauds Nigerian Chess Prodigy for Smashing World Record

Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio has extended congratulations to Nigeria’s Tunde Onakoya for setting a new world chess record, shining a spotlight on the country globally. Akpabio’s congratulatory message, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, was released on Sunday in Abuja.

Akpabio hailed Onakoya's achievement as a testament to Nigeria's spirit of determination, hard work, and resilience. He expressed immense joy in celebrating Onakoya, highlighting his embodiment of these qualities that have elevated Nigeria on the world stage.

Speaking on behalf of the Senate, the Nigerian National Assembly, his constituents in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, and his family, Akpabio congratulated Onakoya and expressed joy in his accomplishment. He commended Onakoya for his steadfastness in the face of challenges during the competition.

Akpabio also praised the initiative behind Onakoya's achievement, emphasizing its aim to raise funds for indigent African children to explore the opportunities in chess. He lauded this approach as a means to groom future champions and steer children away from the streets. Akpabio encouraged Nigerian youth to draw inspiration from Onakoya's success, urging them never to give up on legitimate endeavors despite obstacles, noting that with youth like Onakoya, Nigeria has a promising future.
