Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ousmane Sonko, a prominent politician and supporter, as prime minister in his first presidential move.
Sonko, known for his strong stance against former President Macky Sall, particularly resonates with the country's youth, despite being disqualified from the recent presidential race due to a defamation conviction, which he denies.
Their joint campaign under the slogan "Diomaye is Sonko" propelled Diomaye to victory with over 54% of the vote in the first round.
Sonko, in his new role, pledged to submit a list of ministerial appointments to President Faye for approval, emphasizing their collaborative approach to governance.
