Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, attempted to evade arrest by the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday by jumping over a gate. The arrest was made following a complaint from a car dealer to whom Portable owed money.
Portable had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making an initial payment and promising to settle the remaining amount later. However, he failed to complete the payment, claiming the vehicle was faulty.
In a video that circulated on social media, Portable, dressed in a white and black striped shirt, was seen having a conversation with the police officers before making his escape over the gate. He was later apprehended and bundled into a standby vehicle by four police operatives.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that Portable had bought the G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was defective. Hundeyin added that Portable had a history of controversies, including a previous arrest in 2023 over allegations of assault on an ex-signee.
Portable rose to fame with his hit single "Zazoo Zehh," which featured rapper Olamide in 2021.
