Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has joined the ongoing protest in Lagos, arriving at the Ikeja Underbridge at 8:50 AM. As one of the key organizers, Sowore emphasized that the demonstration was a critical move toward taking Nigeria to the “promised land.”
Sowore addressed reporters, explaining that the protest symbolized Nigerians' rejection of the government’s Independence Day celebration. He criticized past administrations, particularly former President Muhammadu Buhari, for squandering the opportunities given to them by the people.

“This is a symbolic day to demand our own independence,” Sowore stated. He pointed out that the government used additional time to benefit themselves with luxuries like private jets, while ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer from high fuel prices, poor wages, and electricity shortages.
Protesters gathered early at Ikeja Underbridge, closely monitored by a large security presence. The march continued along Awolowo Way as demonstrators demanded reforms and immediate government accountability.
