Speaker Abbas Commends Lawmakers for Passing 89 Bills in First Session

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, praised his colleagues for their diligence in passing 89 bills and deliberating over 679 motions during the first session of the 10th House. He reminded them of the ongoing challenges of poverty, insecurity, and unemployment facing Nigerians and urged continuous effort to address these issues.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the Tuesday plenary at the start of the second session, highlighted the significant legislative achievements. Kalu noted that the House introduced 1,351 bills, the highest since 1999, and passed key bills such as the Access to Higher Education Act, 2024, and the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023. He also emphasized the importance of the Federal Audit Service Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in enhancing financial oversight and transparency.

In closing, Kalu urged legislators to strengthen institutions, enhance legislative processes, and foster greater collaboration with civil society and the private sector.
