Make no mistake about it, the Nigerian society is an opinionated one. That’s why many of us would express an opinion, especially in an uninformed or stubborn manner. Yet nobody goes into any debate to win the argument. In all of this, dissenting opinions are necessary, even when they are wrong. One of the high lights of 2021 was the thorny otherwise of a state police.
Some of the defining points or lines of dissent came from some retired police officers. One of them said state policing was a no no for him. When I prodded further, he revealed that as a state police commissioner you are bugged or bothered by powerful politicians and big wigs who through nocturnal visits, attempt to indulge you. If you are not strong willed, you play ball, and the rest is history.
