The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan 1446.

Speaking from his palace on Friday, February 28, the Sultan announced that the crescent moon had been sighted earlier in the day, marking the conclusion of Shaban 1446 and the official commencement of Ramadan. The reports of moon sightings from various regions across Nigeria were verified and accepted by the council.

The Sultan urged Muslims nationwide to dedicate the holy month to prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings and guidance for the nation and its leaders. He also emphasized the importance of acts of charity, encouraging the support of the less privileged so they too can partake in the fasting period.

With this declaration, Muslims across Nigeria are set to begin the month-long period of fasting, prayers, and devotion, marking a time of spiritual renewal and increased worship.
