The latest FIFA rankings for April have seen the Super Eagles drop two places to 30th in the world, despite their second-place finish at the 2023 African Cup of Nations. Nigeria remains in third place in Africa, behind Morocco and Senegal, who are both in the World Top 20.
A total of 174 matches were played globally, impacting the rankings. Argentina maintains the top spot, followed by France and Belgium, who have returned to the podium at the expense of England. Brazil completes the top five, with Portugal close behind in sixth place.
The USA, Colombia, Ukraine, and Poland have made progress up the rankings, as have Czech Republic, Palestine, and Kyrgyz Republic among the top 100 teams. The Super Eagles played friendlies against Ghana and Mali, winning 2-1 against Ghana but losing 2-0 to Mali.
Mali's win saw them move three steps up to 44th in the world and eighth in Africa. African champions Cote d’Ivoire moved up to 38th globally and fifth in Africa, while Egypt sits fourth in Africa and 37th globally. Tunisia and Algeria are also in the top 50 but sixth and seventh in Africa respectively. The next ranking will be published on June 20th.
