The Supreme Court has upheld the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the governor of Imo State. On Friday, August 23, a five-member panel of the court dismissed the appeal filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Athan Achonu, for lack of merit.
Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, who authored and delivered the lead judgment, ruled against the appellants, finding that they failed to substantiate their claims at the election tribunal as required by law. The judgment also affirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, which had upheld the election tribunal's dismissal of the appellants' petition.
The court's decision solidifies Uzodinma's position as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
