Teacher Remanded After Fatal Flogging of Eight-Year-Old Student

In Anambra State, Mrs. Faith Nwoye, a primary school teacher at Landmark International School Mgbakwu, Awka North, has been remanded in a Correctional Centre following the tragic death of her pupil, Henry Chukwuemeka Okonkwo. The incident, which led to Nwoye's arrest, unfolded after a petition by Mr. Ojiakor Okonkwo to Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, implicating both Nwoye and the school's proprietor, Mrs. Promise Iloh.

The case was swiftly brought before a Special Court dedicated to women and children's matters in the state, where Nwoye's remand occurred pending further legal proceedings. The investigation, initially triggered by the school closure directive from the Commissioner for Education due to alleged illegal operations, intensified after Henry's tragic death following severe corporal punishment.

Commissioner Chuma-Udeh emphasized the gravity of the incident, vowing that Nwoye would face the full consequences of her actions under the law and further institutions safeguarding child rights would be involved in the case's resolution.
