Teenage Boy Arrested for Faking His Own Kidnapping with Friends’ Help

A 17-year-old boy, whose identity has been withheld, was arrested for allegedly faking his own kidnapping with the help of friends, according to Delta Police Commissioner Abaniwonda Olufemi. The incident took place in Okhumera quarters, Agbor-obi, in Delta state's Ika South L.G.A. The boy had sent a voice note to his sister claiming he had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of one million naira (N1,000,000). Following a complaint received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division on March 20, 2024, an investigation was launched, leading to the arrest of three suspects. It was later discovered that the boy had conspired with his friends to stage his own kidnapping. The group had already received a ransom of seven hundred thousand naira (N700,000) before being apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident, the police arrested a suspect for the alleged murder of his girlfriend following a misunderstanding. The incident occurred in Ozoro, where the victim, identified as Jessica Uzowanne, a 19-year-old female, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Raphael Egbon, aged 20, over a disagreement. The suspect is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Delta Police Commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi, addressed these incidents in a statement to reporters in Asaba, highlighting the importance of thorough investigations in cases of alleged crimes to ensure justice is served.
