A yet-to-be-identified police officer has allegedly shot and killed a teenager known as DMX in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday after an argument broke out between the officer and the teenager. According to a source familiar with the situation, the disagreement escalated, leading the officer to fire a shot that struck the victim in the leg.

Friends of the deceased were said to have rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive due to excessive blood loss.

A witness explained:

“DMX had an issue with a police officer. The altercation escalated, and the officer shot him in the leg. His friends rushed him to the hospital, but he had already lost a lot of blood.”

The case gained attention after an X user, @Sturbyrich65562, posted about the incident, insisting that the teenager did not engage in any physical fight with the police officer.

He claimed:

“Naija police killed one of my area gees… He didn’t fight the policeman. He was shot in Ibadan. From what I heard, the officer acted out of being trigger-happy.”

An anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra, also commented on the situation, alleging that medical delays played a role in the boy’s death despite payment being made for treatment. The group further stated that the victim’s father is believed to be a senior police officer.

Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Oyefeso, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages were not returned at the time of this report.

The incident adds to rising concerns over police conduct and excessive use of force in the country.
