In a tragic outbreak of violence, three individuals were killed and five others injured in a clash between the Nawfia and Enugu-Ukwu communities in Anambra State. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Agu-Isionye area, with reports indicating that the victims were lured to the location via phone calls.

The two neighboring communities in Njikoka Local Government Area, which share a common boundary and identify as the Umunri clan, are now grappling with heightened tensions. Leaders from Enugu-Ukwu have called on the State Government to investigate the killings, alleging that the attackers were sponsored by individuals from Nawfia.

In their statement, Enugu-Ukwu leaders expressed deep shock and grief, emphasizing the brutality of the violence. They reported that the victims were executed after being deceived into meeting at Agu-Isionye land, which belongs to Enugu-Ukwu. They have urged the government and police to take urgent action to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

Youth leaders from Enugu-Ukwu condemned the attack, highlighting the betrayal of the Umunri brotherhood. They have called for justice and traditional rites to address the situation, while also stressing that they do not intend to take the law into their own hands.

Nawfia chieftains have denied involvement in the attack and have cautioned against assigning blame prematurely. They have requested that security agencies thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The Anambra Police Command has confirmed the incident. Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the attack resulted in three deaths and five injuries, with the injured victims receiving medical attention at local hospitals. The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has ordered an investigation into the killings and the broader context of the conflict between the two communities.
