At least 40 farmers were killed in an attack by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, while dozens remain missing. The attack, which occurred around 4:30 pm on Sunday, left families in disarray as many victims are believed to have been abducted. Prof. Usman Tar, Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway.

This tragedy comes just a day after another attack in Chibok, where two people were killed, and a church was set ablaze. Governor Babagana Zulum strongly condemned the Dumba attack, urging the military to intensify efforts to neutralize insurgent strongholds in the Lake Chad region. He called for adherence to demarcated security perimeters to prevent such incidents.

Kukawa has faced relentless assaults from Boko Haram since 2014, including the infamous 2019 attack on Baga that displaced thousands. The government has since introduced "safe corridors" for farming and resettlement, but the governor warned residents against venturing into unsafe areas. He commended the military’s ongoing efforts to secure the region.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, highlighted the military’s precision in airstrikes amidst accusations of civilian casualties. He revealed that over 120,000 insurgents, half of whom are children, have surrendered, reflecting the dire tactics of terrorist groups. Efforts are underway to disrupt terrorism financing through collaboration with international bodies.
