Three Abducted Children Rescued, Reunited with Families in Bauchi

Three children abducted from Bauchi State and sold in Anambra State have been successfully rescued and reunited with their families through a coordinated effort by the Bauchi and Anambra State Police Commands, with support from the First Lady’s Office and the Gender-Based Violence Committee.

The handover ceremony was held at the Bauchi Government House, where the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Auwal Musa, briefed Governor Bala Mohammed on the operation.

Details of the Abduction and Rescue

The children, abducted from Bauchi Metropolis in December, were trafficked by a woman who had recently moved to the Gwallameji area. Shortly after her relocation, she abducted her neighbors’ children and vanished. Investigations revealed plans to sell one child for ₦2 million.

In a joint operation, the Bauchi and Anambra Police Commands rescued the children and apprehended individuals linked to the crime, although the prime suspect remains at large.

Government's Response

Governor Bala Mohammed praised the swift action of security agencies and the support of the First Ladies of Bauchi and Anambra States in combating child trafficking.

“As a government, we remain steadfast in our resolve to combat these heinous crimes. Justice will prevail, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” the governor stated.

He urged parents to be vigilant and emphasized the collective role of the community in protecting children. He also called on the Attorney General and Chief Judge to expedite the prosecution of those involved, recalling a similar case two years ago.

Governor Mohammed attributed the rise in child trafficking to poverty, parental neglect, and criminal activities infiltrating the state, reiterating the government’s commitment to safeguarding children.

Families' Gratitude

The families of the rescued children expressed profound gratitude to the government, police, and all involved parties. Their reunion with their children brought immense joy and renewed hope to their lives.

This case underscores the urgent need for vigilance, robust legal actions, and community efforts to protect children and combat child trafficking in Nigeria.
