Tragedy struck at the busy Badagry Roundabout in Lagos on Monday morning when a cement-laden truck lost control and rammed into a traffic officer and two commercial motorcyclists, killing them instantly.
The fatal crash occurred around 9 a.m., according to eyewitness accounts. A bystander said the truck was approaching the junction at high speed when the driver suddenly lost control, veered off its lane and ploughed into the victims.
“The traffic officer was on duty controlling vehicles when the truck swerved and crushed him on the spot. Two motorcyclists who were waiting to pick up passengers were also hit,” the eyewitness recounted.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, were quickly deployed to the scene to manage traffic and restore order.
A police source confirmed that the accident caused heavy gridlock in the area as emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage and evacuate the victims.

Officials said the truck driver was immediately arrested and taken into custody at Badagry Police Station. The vehicle involved in the crash has been impounded for further investigation, while the remains of the victims were deposited at a hospital mortuary.
The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the area attributed the crash to loss of control and advised motorists to avoid the route while investigations continue.
The Divisional Police Officer of Badagry Police Station also confirmed that the driver would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
The incident comes just days after another fatal road accident was recorded in Lagos, raising fresh concerns over reckless driving and road safety compliance across the state.
