The Imo State Police Command successfully foiled an attack on the Njaba Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters in Umuakah on Sunday. This was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the command's spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye.

According to Okoye, the assailants, arriving in three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), launched a violent assault on the headquarters with sporadic gunfire. However, the prompt response of the police officers neutralized the attack.

"In response, the ever-gallant operatives swiftly took up defensive positions and engaged the assailants, resulting in the neutralization of three attackers," Okoye said.

He further revealed that the remaining assailants, who sustained various gunshot injuries, fled into nearby bushes.

During the operation, security forces recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.

Okoye noted that an intense manhunt, led by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.

Danjuma commended the bravery and swift action of the operatives and reassured the public of the command’s commitment to enhancing internal security in the state.

"The command will continue to take decisive actions against any threats to public peace," Okoye added. (NAN)
