Tinubu Appoints Gen. Laka and DIG Kokumo to Lead National Security Initiatives

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, and DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo (rtd) as the Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, both under the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). These appointments were announced by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

Gen. Garba Laka is recognized for his strategic deployment in the North-East, Nigeria, where he played a key role in degrading terrorist groups. His international service includes missions in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, as well as participation in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal. He holds Master's Degrees in National Security and International Affairs and Strategic Studies.

On the other hand, DIG Kokumo (rtd) brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience to his new role. He previously served as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. President Tinubu expects Kokumo to leverage his expertise in crime prevention, management, analysis, and control to revamp the Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.
