President Bola Tinubu has met with leaders and governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, urging them to unite and support a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s primary scheduled for December 13.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. The meeting took place on Monday night at the State House, Abuja.
Among those present were former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
Top party leaders, including APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Governor Hope Uzodimma; and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, were also in attendance.
Tinubu commended the aspirants for their dedication to the party but cautioned against the internal divisions that contributed to the APC’s loss in the last Osun governorship election.
He reminded them of their responsibility to ensure victory for the party next year.
“You all have a duty and obligation to ensure our party’s candidate wins the next election in Osun State. You must strengthen the bonds of unity, respect party supremacy, and embrace collective responsibility,” he said.

Tinubu expressed confidence in their ability to work together and deliver victory, urging them to “close ranks” and rally behind whoever emerges from the party’s selection process.
At the end of the meeting, the aspirants and party leaders issued a joint declaration committing to support the consensus arrangement. They pledged to respect the APC’s nomination process, avoid actions that could cause internal conflict, and work collectively for the party’s success in the 2025 governorship election.
According to INEC’s timetable for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election, political parties must submit their candidates by December 15.
